Spring and warmer weather is finally here! Torean has found a new love, one that might lead to some territorial disputes in the house. Yes, that is right. He has decided that he LOVES the fan, and he is not ashamed about hogging it. To sum it up, while it has not been that hot outside, our house is old, and therefore hogs heat in the summer when we don't want it, and throws heat out in the winter when we want it. So to prevent the house from becoming unbearable as the spring becomes summer, we run some fans to keep cool air flowing. After finding out about Torean's sensitivity to heat when we were bringing him home, we are more conscious about making sure he does not get too warm as well. Torean seems to appreciate our efforts with the fan parking his sixty one pound butt in front of it lovingly and falling asleep with his face practically shoved in it soaking up every bit of cool air until it comes time to rotate and pattern repeat. And yes, he does a very good job of blocking the air so somebody else can't get it. We make sure we keep a fan near his crate as well so that if he gets too hot at night we can turn it on to help him cool down. As I write Torean is sitting in front of the fan again chewing on his toy quite happily, looking lovingly at the fan god, and waiting for us to head up to bed with him. His face is so comical when he is like this, and it never fails to make us laugh.
Outside is taking shape for him as well. Torean now has his Sun Shade cover over his kennel along with a water bowl, and today we brought home a dog Igloo for him that fits nicely in his kennel. We also splurged the other day when we were in PetSmart and bought a dog pool for Torean to play in if he wants to. Torean was......unimpressed with this gift preferring to try and dig up grass rather than get the toys floating around in the pool. But towards the end he was feeling confident enough to drink from the pool and look at it curiously, so we will take that as a sign of progress. The same goes for his Igloo. We put some treats inside so he could check it out, he did, mainly to get the treats mind you, and he was showing a great curiosity about it so that is progress. Whether or not Torean uses it is up to him, but at least now he has the option.
Torean has healed fully from being neutered, and he seems to have gotten over the indignity of it all. The only thing he has left to do is get the fur back that was shaved off for his neutering. After his surgery he became a V.I.D. A Very Important Doggie (which he was to start with) Torean is now microchipped, licensed with the town, caught up on all of his vaccines including the Lyme booster, he is AKC registered, his papers arrived yesterday, and he has a brand spanking new collar and tag with all the info on it. Apparently the sight of a new collar and a bunch of new noisy tags was enough to make him forgive us for that vet visit. The other day Torean got to meet friends of ours from Arizona, where he got spoiled rotten, then he got to go back to the vet for his booster shot where he got to sniff to his hearts content and get petted by the nice people there. Today was full of car rides, play sessions outside, and yes, you guessed it, fan hogging. So in short, this seems like a good place to end this blog and take his royal fan hog to bed. Have a great rest of the week everyone!
